Ingredients
Method
- Prepare the Garlic Butter
- In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, and salt. Mix until smooth and well combined.
- Cook the Cheesesteak Filling
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onion and bell pepper (if using) and sauté for 3–4 minutes until softened. Add the beef, season with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder, then cook for 5–7 minutes until browned. Remove from the heat and let cool slightly.
- Prepare the Bread
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the bread loaf lengthwise without cutting all the way through. Carefully hollow out some of the soft bread from the center, leaving sturdy sides.
- Spread the Garlic Butter
- Generously spread the garlic butter mixture over the inside of the bread, making sure to coat all surfaces.
- Fill the Bread
- Spoon the cooked cheesesteak mixture into the hollowed loaf, pressing it down gently. Top evenly with the mozzarella and provolone cheese.
- Bake
- Wrap the loaf loosely in aluminum foil and place it on a baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes, then uncover and bake for another 10–15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden.
- Slice and Serve
- Allow the loaf to rest for 5 minutes before slicing into thick portions. Serve warm.
Notes
Thinly sliced steak cooks quickly and stays tender.
Avoid removing too much bread from the loaf to keep it sturdy.
Mozzarella provides the perfect cheese pull, while provolone adds authentic cheesesteak flavor.
For extra garlic flavor, mix roasted garlic into the butter.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
Reheat in a 350°F oven until warmed through to keep the bread crispy.
